Batavia's Summer Fun Guide
Fox Valley Summer Guide 2026
Your Summer in Batavia
Two farmers markets. A free outdoor concert series running all summer long. A three-day festival that shuts down the Riverwalk in the best possible way. Batavia has quietly become one of the Fox Valley's best-kept summer secrets — and we're done keeping it secret.
"Batavia is the kind of town where you come for one thing — maybe the farmers market, maybe a concert along the river — and you leave wondering why you don't live here yet."
Tucked along the banks of the Fox River in Kane County, Batavia is a town that rewards people who pay attention. It's not flashy about what it offers — no billboards, no big campaigns — it just quietly delivers one of the best community experiences in the entire Fox Valley, season after season.
This summer, Batavia is giving residents and visitors two farmers markets per week (yes, really — Saturday mornings AND Wednesday evenings), eight free outdoor concerts along the Riverwalk, the legendary Windmill City Festival, kayak rentals on the Fox River, charming boutique shopping, and enough food truck appearances to keep you very well fed from June through August.
If Batavia isn't already on your summer rotation, it needs to be. Here's everything you need to know.
River Rhapsody: Batavia's Free Wednesday Night Concert Series
Every Wednesday evening from June through early August, the Batavia Park District's River Rhapsody Concert Series transforms the Peg Bond Center into one of the best free outdoor music experiences in the Fox Valley. We're talking real bands, great sound, the Fox River as your backdrop, and wine and beer available for purchase. It does not get more civilized than this.
Eight concerts. Eight different acts. Every one of them free. The series runs in tandem with the Wednesday Evening Farmers Market, which means you can browse local vendors from 5–8 PM and then settle in for live music starting at 7 PM. It's an entire Wednesday night sorted — with zero planning required.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket, arrive around 6 PM to grab a spot and browse the market, pick up a drink, and enjoy the show. That's it. That's the whole plan. You're welcome.

Two Farmers Markets — Because One Wasn't Enough
Batavia Saturday Farmers' Market
Batavia's Saturday morning market is a local institution. Set on N. River Street between Wilson and Spring Streets — a beautifully walkable stretch of downtown — this market runs from May through October and features a solid lineup of local produce, fresh goods, and handmade items from the region's farmers and artisans.
Show up early (the 8 AM crowd is serious), hit a local café for coffee, and plan to linger. Downtown Batavia's boutique shops are steps away, so you can make a whole morning of it.
Batavia Wednesday Evening Farmers Market
Now in its third season, the Wednesday Evening Market at South Riverwalk Plaza is one of the Fox Valley's most charming mid-week traditions. About 20 curated vendors line the plaza from 5–8 PM, and because the River Rhapsody concerts kick off at 7 PM just steps away, the whole evening flows seamlessly from market to music.
It's the perfect after-work routine: swing by on your way home, grab some fresh produce and a treat, stay for the concert, and head back feeling like you actually had a summer Wednesday.
Windmill City Festival — July 10–12, 2026
Three Days of Pure Batavia at Its Best
The Windmill City Festival is Batavia's biggest summer party, and it earns that title every single year. Held at the Peg Bond Center along the beautiful Batavia Riverwalk, this three-day event packs in live music from tribute bands, food trucks, a beer garden, a weekend carnival, family activities, contests, and a craft fair — all with free admission.
This is the kind of community festival that makes you remember why you love small-town Illinois summers. It's loud, it's fun, it's packed, and it's genuinely well-organized. Families with kids? Covered. Adults who want great live music and cold drinks by the river? Also covered. Everyone wins at Windmill City.
Our advice: go all three days. There's enough happening that each day feels different, and the Riverwalk setting makes even just sitting in the grass with food and a drink feel like a vacation.

The Jones Team — Our Take on Batavia
"Batavia is one of those markets where the lifestyle practically writes the listing description for us. Clients come here for a Wednesday evening market and a River Rhapsody concert, walk around downtown afterward, maybe wander down to the Riverwalk — and by the time they get back to their car, they're already asking what's available. We've seen it happen more times than we can count.
What makes Batavia special isn't just any one thing. It's the combination: a genuine downtown with real local shops, a river with actual outdoor recreation, a community events calendar that punches well above its weight, and a housing market that still offers real value for what you get. Whether you're looking for a Victorian fixer, a newer build, or something in between, Batavia has a lot to offer — and a lot of summer left to convince you."
What's It Like to Live in Batavia?
Batavia sits in Kane County along the Fox River, and it offers a quality of life that repeatedly surprises people who discover it for the first time. Walkable downtown. Great park district. Strong school district. Beautiful historic neighborhoods. And a community that shows up — for farmers markets, for festivals, for concerts — with genuine enthusiasm.
The housing stock here is diverse: you'll find gorgeous historic homes close to the river, solid mid-century neighborhoods, and newer developments on the edges of town. Price points tend to be more accessible than comparable homes in Naperville or Geneva, while you still get strong school ratings and all the Kane County amenities.
If you're exploring the Fox Valley and Batavia isn't on your list, put it on your list. We'd be happy to show you around.
