What to Do in WOODSTOCK this Summer!
Fox Valley Summer Guide 2026
What to Do in Woodstock This Summer
Farmers markets. Food trucks. Free concerts. Shakespeare under the stars. Woodstock is THAT town — and if you're not spending time here this summer, you're doing it wrong.
"Let me tell you something about Woodstock that people who live here already know: this town doesn't just have a historic square — it has a whole summer calendar that would make bigger cities jealous."
Nestled in the heart of McHenry County, Woodstock, Illinois is one of those rare places that manages to be charming, walkable, and wildly underrated — all at the same time. The iconic Woodstock Square, with its quaint brick streets, period lighting, and gorgeous Opera House, has been the heartbeat of community life for over 130 years.
And in the summer of 2026? It's absolutely stacked with things to do. We're talking a producers-only farmers market three times a week, a food truck festival that draws 7,000+ people, free movies under the stars, City Band concerts, live music on Friday nights, the annual PrideFest parade, Juneteenth celebrations, Shakespeare performances, and more. All within walking distance of one another. All (mostly) free.
Whether you already live here, are visiting, or are curious about what it's like to call Woodstock home — this is your complete summer guide. Let's get into it.
The Woodstock Farmers Market:
A Whole Lifestyle, Not Just a Shopping Trip
Here's the thing about the Woodstock Farmers Market that sets it apart from every other market in the region: it's a producers-only market. That means every single vendor grew it, raised it, or made it themselves. No middlemen. No re-sellers. Just honest, local goodness direct from the source.
Set right on the historic Woodstock Square at 121 W. Van Buren St., this market has been a Saturday morning ritual for thousands of McHenry County families — and since they added Tuesday markets, you now have two shots a week to stock up on fresh produce, artisan goods, and locally made everything.
Come hungry. There's usually live music, chef demos, and kids' activities woven in, so this isn't a quick in-and-out errand. Block a couple of hours. Bring a reusable bag. Grab a coffee from one of the Square's local cafés and make a morning of it.
📅 Market Schedule — May through October 2026
Woodstock's Summer Spotlight Events
Twenty-five-plus food trucks descend on the historic square, the entire block closes to traffic, live music plays, and a beer tent keeps the adults happy. Over 7,000 people are expected — so arrive early, bring lawn chairs or a blanket, and plan to stay a while. This is Woodstock at full volume, and it's absolutely worth it.
The City Band has been performing at Park in the Square for over 130 years — and they're still going strong. These free Wednesday evening concerts are a quintessential Woodstock summer experience. Bring a lawn chair, spread out in the park, and let the music wash over you. This is what summer in a real community looks like.
The annual Woodstock PrideFest lights up the historic square with a colorful parade kicking off at 11 AM, followed by a full afternoon of live entertainment, local food trucks, vendors, and community speakers. Family-friendly and full of heart — this is one of the most vibrant days on the Woodstock calendar.
Park in the Square transforms into an outdoor cinema on Thursday evenings, with pre-movie activities starting at 7:30 PM and the film rolling at dusk (around 8:30 PM). Pack a blanket, grab snacks, and settle in under the stars. Pro tip: Wednesday evenings also feature live music and ice cream treats — make it a two-night Park streak.
August brings three killer Friday night concerts to the Square: The Boat Drunks Yacht Rock Band (Aug 7), The Blooze Brothers (Aug 14), and the Chicago Latin Band (Aug 21). Three very different vibes, all free, all on one of Illinois' most beautiful historic squares. Save these dates — August nights in Woodstock don't get better than this.
The Woodstock Shakespeare Players bring the Bard to Park in the Square on three gorgeous July and August evenings. Outdoor theater, perfect summer weather, historic backdrop — it doesn't get more civilized than this. Bring wine (and your best fake British accent, optional). A lovely low-key way to spend a late Sunday afternoon.
Woodstock marks Juneteenth with a community celebration at the historic square. Details are TBD — check the official City of Woodstock calendar for the full program as the date approaches. A meaningful community gathering on an important day in American history.
Off Square Music hosts a Sundays on the Square concert on June 28 — because apparently Woodstock hasn't quite filled enough days of the week with free events yet (bless them). A perfect low-key Sunday afternoon of live music surrounded by the charm of the historic square. Just do it.

The Jones Team — Straight From the Source
"We've been in real estate in the Fox Valley for a long time, and we'll tell you — Woodstock is one of those markets where people fall in love with the town before they even look at the houses. They come for the farmers market on a Saturday morning, grab coffee on the Square, wander into a shop or two, and by noon they're texting us asking what's available. We've seen it happen dozens of times. The lifestyle here does the selling for us.
The historic square, the walkability, the community events, the local shops and restaurants — Woodstock has this rare small-town energy that people don't realize exists 50 miles from Chicago until they actually show up. And once they do, they want to stay. If you've been curious about this town, spend a Saturday morning here this summer. We're willing to bet it won't be your last visit."
So... What's It Like to Live in Woodstock?
Glad you asked. Woodstock sits in McHenry County and offers a genuinely exceptional quality of life — historic homes, strong schools, a vibrant arts scene (hello, Opera House), and a downtown that actually functions as a community gathering place rather than just a photo backdrop.
The housing market here tends to attract buyers who want character and community. You'll find beautiful Victorian and craftsman homes alongside newer construction, with price points that often feel like a steal compared to what you'd pay in DuPage or Kane County for the same square footage. The tradeoff is a slightly longer commute — but for many people, that's a very easy trade to make.
If you've been thinking about making a move to the Fox Valley area, Woodstock deserves serious consideration. Let me show you around.
