Someone's Making a Documentary About East  Dundee — and Honestly, It's About Time

It's not going to win an Oscar, and nobody involved is pretending otherwise — but a filmmaker putting together a full-length documentary about East Dundee's residents and legacy is the kind of story that makes me a little proud of this corner of the map.

Per the Daily Herald, the project aims to capture the voices of East Dundee residents alongside the town's history — the kind of storytelling that usually only happens for places with either a tragedy or a tourist trap attached to them. East Dundee has neither. It's just a small river town with real staying power, and apparently that's enough to earn a camera crew's attention.

Funded by the village, the project is designed to capture the unique roots, local legacy, and everyday voices of the community's residents.

Why this matters if you're house hunting

A town worth documenting is usually a town with an identity buyers can feel the second they get out of the car — history that hasn't been paved over, a downtown with actual character, residents who've stuck around long enough to have opinions about it. That's not something you can manufacture with new construction. If East Dundee's been on your radar, this is one more small signal that the town's charm is real enough that someone thought it deserved a feature-length treatment.

 Located about 40 miles northwest of Chicago along the Fox River, it offers a small-town feel, a walkable historic downtown, active nightlife, and community events.
